Grad student at Carnegie Mellon

Hi, I'm Gayathri Ganesh Lakshmy, a first-year MIIS graduate student at the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Dr. Carolyn Rose. My broad interests lie in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning, but what truly motivates me is the transformative power of technology to address real-world societal challenges and enhance cognitive well-being.

I firmly believe that technology can foster positive change in society, and that’s why I’m passionate about developing technologies that promote inclusivity, reduce bias, and facilitate equitable communication in digital spaces. My research interests primarily revolve around applying Machine Learning in cross-cultural and multimodal contexts, particularly in addressing and mitigating social biases in online communication. Additionally, I’m excited to explore the capabilities of Large Language Models to better understand and replicate the dynamics of digital interactions across different linguistic and cultural landscapes.
